In the past several years the KentlandVolunteer Fire Department incorporated has had a strong relationship with surrounding Prince George's County Fire Companies as well as surrounding jurisdictions. With this friendship has come assistance with apparatus, manpower, community relations, etc. Recently the Fire Chief of the District of Columbia Fire Department, Dennis Rubin extended his departments invite for the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department, Incorporated to assist the D.C.F.D. with welcoming representatives from the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Team 2010. This warm welcome was intended to showcase the Washington,D.C. area (including its surrounding fire departments) as a perfect location and atmosphere for the 2010 International Association of Fire Chiefs, Fire-Rescue International Conference and Expo. The day long presentation of the City began at 0800 hours in the fairly new Walter Washington Convention Center when apparatus from the D.C.F.D. (E13, E16, T7, T15, M4, Brush Unit, Mobile Command), Kentland VFD (E33),Clinton VFD (E25), Burtonsville VFD (RS15-Montgomery Co, MD) and the Cabin John Park VFD (Tanker 30-Montgomery Co., MD) were put front and center on display. The display was complete with theatrical lighting. During the apparatus display the attendees (approx. 50) were treated to a breath taking video presentation by Fire Chief Dennis Rubin, a delicious full course breakfast and presentation by the DC board of tourism. This all lasted just a couple hours. From this venue the tour continued through the entire convention center and then on to other points in the city. This all went until approx. 2100 hours the same night. Other aspects of the grand presentation included two more meals, one which included Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty (D). The decision to utilize Washington, D.C. in 2010 should be made shortly be the IAFC Team 2010. The Kentland Volunteer Fire Department,Incorporated would like to thank Fire Chief Dennis Rubin and the District of Columbia Fire Department for allowing our department to be represented at this very worth while event and for allowing our department to continue in a growing partnership. The volunteers at Station 33 maintained an additional two fully staffed crews during this time frame.
