In May 1995, Prince George’s County Fire officials notified the Kentland Fire Chief that they would remove the day work career staff from station 33 and, effective 1500 hours on May 26th, 1995, assign the volunteers the responsibility of staffing the firehouse 24/7. The dedicated Volunteers rose to the challenge of helping the community receive around the clock fire department services. Today marks the 30th anniversary of the department providing 24/7 ALL Volunteer Fire Department service to the community. During this time, the members from Kentland would often provide extra staffing to Prince George’s County, with two, three, and even four crews responding out of the Landover Road firehouse. Over the last 30 years of service, The Kentland Volunteer Fire Department has never failed to respond on a run and has never responded out the door understaffed. Volunteer staffing at Kentland has saved the county millions of dollars over the last 30 years, and we look forward to continuing our dedication to the community. A special thank you to all those who have helped make Kentland what it is and kept us in service for the last 30 years.
