Yesterday morning, while returning from a fire alarm in the first due, #Engine332 and #Chief33 were dispatched as the 4th due engine (RIT) on Box 09-06 for a fire reported in the 5600 block of Hamilton Street. While units were responding, PSC advised of multiple calls with reports of people trapped and Battalion Chief 4 started the working fire dispatch. Engine Co. 9 arrived on scene of a 2-story cape cod style dwelling with smoke showing and a working fire in the basement. Engine 332 arrived to pick up Engine Co. 28’s hydrant and made their way to Side A to establish RIT. While this was happening, PSC advised Command of possible children trapped in the basement and Truck 12 reported that they would be delayed due to heavy traffic. With no special service units on scene to start searches with the multiple reports of people trapped, Engine 332 asked command if they would like the crew to deviate from RIT and begin the primary searches until the arrival of a special service. Battalion Chief 4 approved this request and Engine 332 entered the dwelling for searches. All searches proved to be negative. Chief 33 was assigned the basement division. Upon the arrival of Squad 1 and Truck 12, E332’s crew exited the structure and stood by as RIT on Side A for the remainder of the incident.
