Yesterday afternoon, Box 27-10 was struck for fire in a tire shop with reports of people trapped. One minute later #Engine332 was sent for the smoke investigation just one block from the fire. Originally denied by command to run on the working fire, E332 arrived on the block and was ordered to pickup the working fire engine’s hydrant. The crew ran 250’ 1.5” to the scene to find fire showing from the garage doors of the one story commercial building and began extinguishing fire. Once crews were allowed to enter the structure, E332 went in and extinguished the remaining fire towards the rear. This was an extremely labor intensive operation requiring crews to remove various debris and dozens of tires to access the seat of the fire. Searches proved negative. The five volunteers operated for roughly two hours before returning to service.
